Richard George Foehrkolb
Richard George Foehrkolb, 90, of Bradenton and formerly of Holmes Beach, died July 16.
He was born Sept 7, 1931, in Baltimore, the youngest of 10 children.
He worked at Eastern Stainless Steel Co. in the hot mill for 30 years and retired at the age of 49.
Soon after retiring, he and wife Ruth moved to Anna Maria Island, where they lived in Holmes Beach for 18 years.
He enjoyed hunting in Maryland with his six brothers and son, fishing at the end of 28th Street in Holmes Beach and playing cards with family and friends and the adventure of garage sale-ing, looking for treasures.
The couple moved off the island and found a new home they loved in Bradenton.
The family would like to thank Tidewell Hospice for their care and kindness to Mr. Foehrkolb in his last days.
Mr. Foehrkolb is survived by his dear wife of 73 years, Ruth Alice; children Joyce Lacher and Rick Foehrkolb of Maryland and Brenda Foehrkolb and Darlene McNamara of Florida; granddaughters Shannon, Tracy and Melissa; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Carol H. Labash
Carol H. Labash, 84, of Holmes Beach and formerly of Clifton, New Jersey, died July 13 in Bradenton.
She was born May 26, 1938, in Brooklyn. She received her bachelor of arts degree in 1960 from Immaculata College. On July 21, 1962, she married John J. “Jack” Labash Jr. and they raised two children, John and Christine.
Mrs. Labash taught mathematics for 40 years, retiring in January 2003 from Passaic High School. She was a dedicated teacher and truly enjoyed seeing her students thrive. She was admired by students and colleagues alike.
Carol, also known as Sue to her close friends, enjoyed many activities, including skiing and archery where she was awarded New Jersey Field Archery State Champion, riding horses and being outdoors. Upon her retirement in January 2003, the couple moved to Holmes Beach to enjoy retirement. During this time, they relished walking the beach and swimming with friends.
A service of remembrance is being planned for a later date.
Mrs. Labash is survived by her son, John J. of Bradenton, and daughter Christine and wife Justine of Denville, New Jersey.
