Teresa Dunn Hogle
Teresa Dunn Hogle, 54, of Holmes Beach, died June 19 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
She was born May 4, 1968, in Marion, Ohio, to Zita and Donald Dunn. She lived her childhood years in Delaware, Ohio, and Kentucky. She was a member of the Delaware Hayes class of 1986.
She loved to travel, with a trip to Alaska among her favorites. On her first vacation to Hilton Head Island, she fell in love and vacationed there numerous times. Amish Country also was a favorite Ohio getaway. Her other passions included her grandchildren, gardening, horror movies, HGTV and her dog JJ.
She met her husband, Robert K. Hogle, in 2008, and went on a “second” first date in 2011. They have been side by side ever since. Both of them loved the beach and first vacationed to Anna Maria Island in 2016, where her mom owned a home. After a vacation to AMI in 2017, the couple moved there in October.
A celebration of life will be Sept. 10 in Delaware, Ohio, and an island beach celebration will be held one hour before sunset Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the 77th Street beach access, which will be followed by a gathering at the Hogle house.
Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice in Bradenton/Sarasota, or to Moffitt Cancer Institute, Magnolia Campus, to the bone marrow and Car-T Unit.
Mrs. Hogle is survived by her husband, Robert; sons Cody Taylor and wife Jessica and Brandon Taylor and wife Dylan; daughter Lisa and husband Larry; grandchildren Kehnya, Kylee, Cameron, Colton and Coby. She also is survived by her mother, Brenda Dunn; father John Young and wife Lyn; sisters Tasha Shaw and husband Gary, Sarah Meyst and husband Pete, Audrea Berrones and husband Adam, Jessica Coomer and husband BJ, Stephanie Todd and husband Josh and Claudia Oakleaf and husband Jim; brothers Donald Wood and wife Terri Malone, Scott Young and Brad Young; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Michael Howe
Michael Howe, 68, of Bradenton, died Aug. 24.
He was born Jan. 29, 1954, in Kansas City, Missouri.
He graduated from Rockhurst University in 1975 and the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 1979.
He spent much of his early career practicing local government planning and zoning law as deputy city attorney in Kansas City, Kansas, and city attorney in Lenexa, Kansas. He also practiced law with the firm Lewis, Rice and Fingersh in Kansas City, Missouri.
In 2000, Michael and wife Marsha moved to Bradenton, where he worked for American Tower Corporation. He then joined the Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization in 2002 as planning manager and in 2005 was named executive director, retiring in 2015.
Mr. Howe represented the MPO in numerous regional and statewide planning activities and was elected chair of the MPO Advisory Council Directors as well as chair of the MPO Advisory Council Revenue Study Committee.
In retirement, he was active at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Holmes Beach as a lector and Eucharistic minister. On joining Saints Peter & Paul the Apostles Catholic Church in Bradenton, he sang in the choir and served as a lector.
He also was a member of the theater group DraMature at the Manatee Players. He enjoyed golf and working out at the gym. He was a passionate fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Rays and the Lightning.
A Memorial Mass was planned for 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Saints Peter & Paul the Apostles Catholic Church in Bradenton. A reception follows in the Moretti Center. Mr. Howe is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marsha; brother Steve and wife Frances Marie; brother John and wife Candy; sister-in-law Mary Ellen; sister Mary Ann; and nieces and nephews.
Juanita Carter Mikles
Juanita Carter “Nita” Mikles, 96, of Holmes Beach, died Aug. 25.
She was born in Fort Pierce and spent most of her life in Norfolk, Houston, and Holmes Beach.
Instantly liked by everyone who met her, she was an anchor of faith to her family and friends who loved her dearly.
She was a cancer survivor who also had arthritis, a heart condition and other health issues, who never allowed her ailments to prevent her from having a cheerful positive attitude toward life.
She regularly read her Bible and texted her family and friends including cellphone photos. Music and art were among her passions. A self-taught artist, she painted over her lifetime. Her musical instruments were flute, accordion and piano.
She also loved RVs and was involved with nutrition many years before it became popular.
Above all, she was a believer and was quoted saying, “I’m going to heaven. Not sure what my position will be there but I’m going.”
