Gene Aubry, 87, died Dec. 9.
The island lost a man known as an “everyman” … a renaissance man who excelled in many paths in
his life, but none so much as friendship and community service.
He was an architect, artist and musician, a city servant and a family man.
Many came to know Gene Aubry after he moved to Holmes Beach in 1985, and later to Anna Maria, and quickly integrated into the community.
He left his mark on AMI in the homes he designed, the vision he imprinted, the music that delighted
us and the gifts of art and wisdom he imparted.
He had many friends and touched many lives, but none so much as family and his partner in recent
years, Sandy Rich.
There will be a private family service. More on Mr. Aubry’s life is published this week on page 15 and online at islander. org, including a tribute by Islander publisher Bonner Joy, published when he was named 2013 Islander of the Year.

His family, particularly step daughters Katharine and Suzanne Wight, have been very touched by and grateful for all the community support and messages during this sad time for us. Thank you all.
