Laura Dama Baden
Laura Dama Baden, 64, of Bradenton, died April 26.
She was born May 19, 1960, in New Rochelle, New York, where she spent her early years before her family moved to Anna Maria Island in 1968.
She leaves behind a legacy as a devoted mother who faced life’s challenges with strength, resilience and a generous heart.
She grew up on the island and graduated from Bayshore High School in 1978, then went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in 1983 from Florida State University.
She met her husband, Chris, at FSU and they married in 1984 and shared 41 years together.
Her early career included various positions at Barnett Bank of Manatee County, concluding as assistant vice president following the birth of her son.
Much of Mrs. Baden’s life was shaped by her courageous 42-year battle with multiple sclerosis. She found a community in support groups and often served as a source of guidance and comfort for those newly diagnosed with the illness. Despite the challenges she faced, she cherished time with others — especially her lifelong friend group known as the “Ladies Auxiliary.” She had a passion for cooking, staying active and being on the water.
Laura also was engaged in her local community. She served as a sustaining member and past president of Junior League of Manatee County, coordinator of Manatee County’s historic “Celebrate 2000” event and volunteer for the Bishop Museum of Science and Nature, Manatee Glens and the Community Thrift Store benefiting Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School.
There will be a celebration of life 3-6 p.m. Friday, May 23, at the Palma Sola Botanical Park, 9800 17th Ave. NW, Bradenton. Condolences may be made at brownandsonsfuneral.com/obituaries/.
Mrs. Baden is survived by her loving husband, Chris; son Cory; sister Lynne and husband Bob; and nieces Toni and husband Adam, Ashley and husband Kevin, and Madelyn.
