Anna Maria Mayor Mark Short reported in a Dec. 19 email message to The Islander that there was not a lot to report in the week leading up to Christmas and the holidays.
“Everyone is trying to finalize loose ends before we hit the two-week holiday period. City hall will close at noon Dec. 23 for the Christmas holiday and reopen Monday, Dec. 29,” he said.
The mayor noted that “the pier project is progressing.” Pilings continue to be driven and — as the city’s pier contractor works from the farthest point on the walkway westward — they are getting closer to land. “We still anticipate the last of the pilings will be driven by the end of the first week in January.”
Short closed his message to Islander readers with well wishes: “Hope you have a great Christmas and holidays with the family.”
Holmes Beach Mayor Judy Titsworth emailed the newspaper Dec. 21, also with wishes for a grand holiday.
“Merry Christmas to all,” she wrote.
She also asked that anyone with an interest in Holmes Beach read her State of the City address online. It’s available on The Islander website at islander.org.
