There is plenty of competition for work on the Anna Maria City Pier’s T-end.
City staff opened bids on May 6 from eight contractors in response to the municipality’s two requests for proposals for construction.
The pier has been closed since the 2024 hurricanes destroyed its walkway and damaged the T-end.
While Gibsonton-based Tampa Bay Marine began work rebuilding the walkway months ago, the T-end has remained in disrepair.
Restoring the T-end involves repairing its platform, remediating two buildings and gutting bathrooms.
City officials have also discussed potentially opening the shell of the eastern building — which previously housed the Mote Marine Laboratory’s Marine Science Education and Outreach Center — by replacing windows with hurricane-rated sliding glass doors.
Work on the T-end can occur at the same time as TBM continues construction on the walkway. The pier as a whole is expected to reopen this fall.
In March, the city issued two RFPs: one for demolition and remediation on the T-end and another for the installation of the sliding glass doors.
The first RFP, involving demolition and remediation services, received six bids in response.
The bidders included:
- Sarasota-based Ecosouth Florida;
- Port Saint Lucie-based J&H Painting Services;
- Sebring-based Rapid Response Disaster Services LLC;
- Sunrise-based Restopro770;
- Jacksonville-based Sweetwater Contractors;
- Anna Maria-based Tangerine Group Inc.
In response to the second RFP, involving the hurricane-rated sliding glass doors, the city received two bids from the Tangerine Group and Longboat Key-based Eason Builders Group.
The bid amounts were not publicly available for either RFP as of May 8.
The proposals will be reviewed by Mayor Mark Short and city staff, who will provide recommendations to city commissioners for consideration at a future meeting.
The city commission’s next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at city hall, 10005 Gulf Drive.
