Playoff action in the adult 3-v-3 basketball league at the Center of Anna Maria Island tipped off quarterfinal games in the gym June 11.
No. 1 seed Paddy Wagon cruised to a 22-18, 22-16, 23-15 win over No. 8 Mi-Box. Chris Harris led Paddy Wagon with 23 points over the three games, while Jacob Clancy added 21.
Logan Heath and Colton Heath each finished with 22 points over three games to lead Mi-Box in the loss.
The second series of the night saw No. 2 Bradenton Home Inspections sweep No. 7 USA Fence 22-14, 22-14. The third game was a forfeit. Tom Parks scored 20 points and Paul Hamilton added 10 points over the two games to lead Bradenton Home Inspections in the victory.
Sequel Martinez and Dewin Escobar each finished with 14 points for USA Fence in the two losses.
The third match of the night saw No. 6 Luxury Services upset No. 3 seed Gator-Man Pools 18-20, 21-15, 21-17 to advance to the semifinals. Chase Richardson scored 26 points over the three games to lead Luxury Services, which also received 15 points from Wesley Jackson in the victory.
Will Kretzman scored 22 points and Aaron Duduks added 21 for Gator-Man Pools in the loss.
The last match of the night saw No. 4 seed Q Law Injury Attorneys sweep past No. 5 Salty Printing 21-12, 16-9, with the last game a forfeit by Salty Printing.
Joe Hills scored 17 points over the two games to lead Q Law, which also received eight points each from Brendan Early and Lamar Brown in the victory.
Corey Jaques scored eight points and Ajani Poole and Jacob Munez added five points each for Salty Printing in the loss.
Semifinal action is set for Thursday, June 18, when Paddy Wagon takes on Q Law at 6:15 p.m. at the center, 407 Magnolia Ave., Anna Maria, followed by Home Inspections battling Luxury Services at 7 p.m.
The winners will face off at 8 p.m. on the center court for the championship.
Key Royale news
Golf action at the members-only Key Royale Club, 700 Key Royale Drive, Holmes Beach, started on June 8 with the men’s weekly modified Stableford system match. Ron Huibers and Kurt Snouffer tied for first place at plus-4, two points ahead of second-place finishers Tom Nelson and Ron Vandeman. Nelson won the lone skin on the fourth hole.
Helen Pollock rode a chip in on the fourth hole to an even-par 32 that gave her a tie for first place with Sue Wheeler. Second place was also shared, as Sue Christenson and Jana Samuels both finished at 1-over-par 33.
The week of organized golf ended June 11 with a nine-hole scramble. The team of Leo Burke, Jerry Martinek, Earl Ritchie and Steve Vasbinder combined on a 4-under-par 28 to earn clubhouse bragging rights for the day. The team of Kevin Breheny, Ken Kari, Kurt Snouffer and Warren Stevens matched the 1-under-par 31 carded by Ron Buck, Tom Nelson, Jana Samuels and Bill Shuman for a tie for second place.
Horseshoe news
Outdoor action at Anna Maria City Hall at the horseshoe pits was short and sweet. The June 10 games saw Tom Farrington and Gary Howcroft forge the lone 3-0 record in pool play and were the day’s outright champs.
Then on June 13, Gersey Fernandes walked his way to the only perfect record during pool play, making him the outright champ for the day.
Play gets underway at 9 a.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Anna Maria pits, 10005 Gulf Drive. Warm-ups begin at 8:45 a.m., followed by random team selection.
There is no charge to play and all are welcome.
