JoAnn ‘Joey’ Lester
JoAnn “Joey” Alexander Lester, 97, of Holmes Beach and Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, died June 1 at Wisconsin Rapids.
She was born Feb. 18, 1929, to John and Dorothy Alexander at the Chicago Lying-in Hospital and Dispensary in Chicago. She attended grade school and high school in Port Edwards, Wisconsin, and also attended Milwaukee Downer in Milwaukee. Following high school, she graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
She married Charles “Chuck” Lester March 10, 1962, in Port Edwards.
She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, Bullseye Country Club, Birthday Club, Tuesday Club, Sunrise Club, S&R Club, Monday Golf Club, Key Royale Club, United Methodist Church, and was a charter member of the Riverview Hospital Auxiliary. She took pride in serving on the board of directors for the Alexander Charitable Foundation and the South Wood County YMCA for over 35 years.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Village of Port Edwards Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at Bullseye Country Club at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the South Wood County YMCA or the Center of Anna Maria Island.
Mrs. Lester is survived by her children, Patricia Roberts of Novato, California, and Mark Roberts of Wisconsin Rapids; grandchildren Allison Roberts and Kirk Roberts; great-grandchild Jaxon Roberts; and special friends, David and wife Amy Alnes, Peter and Donna Smart and Rhonda La Chapelle.
