The Islander’s Top Notch contest begins anew.
A classic returns.
The contest celebrates what is still known as the “Kodak moment,” even though Kodak itself fell behind in the shift from film to digital technology.
Mark July 10.
That is the first of six weekly deadlines.
And don’t forget this.
Your July 4 holiday photos will be especially timely in the coming weeks.
Six weeks. Six winners.
The contest will name six weekly front-page winners, and each of those winning entries will move on to compete for the grand prize: $100 from The Islander, along with certificates from partner merchants.
One shot will stand above the rest.

A pet photo contest also will name a prize-winner, and honorable mentions will get a shoutout as well.
A few requirements: Each original JPG must be submitted in a single email, along with the photographer’s name, the date the photo was taken, the location, a description, the names of any recognizable people, and the photographer’s address and phone number.

Top Notch contest rules
The Islander Newspaper Top Notch Photo Contest is open to amateur photographers, defined as those who derive less than 5% of their income from photography.
Black-and-white and color photographs taken after Jan. 1, 2025, are eligible. Photos previously published in any format or medium, or entered in any other competition, are not eligible.
Photographs may be taken with any camera, including cellphones. No retouching or alteration other than cropping is allowed and no composite or multiple-print images will be accepted. Only original digital photos in JPG format are allowed.
The date, or approximate date, along with the entrant’s name, address and phone number, must be included in the email with the digital photo.
Submit one photo per email to topnotch@islander.org.
By entering, photographers agree that The Islander may publish their pictures for local promotion. Entrants must provide the original digital image. All submitted images become the property of The Islander, digital files will not be returned, and The Islander and contest sponsors assume no responsibility for submitted materials.
Entrants must provide the name and address of any recognizable persons appearing in the picture.
Employees and paid contributors to The Islander, as well as their immediate family members, are not eligible to enter.
