One more phase of construction remains to be completed before the Anna Maria City Pier can reopen.

Mayor Mark Short said Sept. 3 that the Tangerine Group was set to complete demolition and remediation work on the pier’s T-end the same week.

The pier has remained closed since hurricanes Helene and Milton destroyed its walkway in 2024.

The walkway was rebuilt earlier this summer, but work was needed on the T-end, which has remained in disrepair since the pier’s closure.

Tangerine Group began demolition and remediation in early August. The work has involved repairing the T-end platform, remediating water damage in the two buildings and gutting the bathrooms.

With that work wrapping up, the last phase of construction will involve opening the shell of the T-end’s eastern building by replacing sections of it with hurricane-rated overhead doors.

The city commission was set to discuss a $436,192 proposed contract with Sarasota-based Southern Cross Contracting during a Sept. 8 meeting, after The Islander’s press deadline.

The proposal includes a 90-day timeline for completing construction, but Short said there were ways it could be shortened.

Nevertheless, after SCC’s work is finished, Short said pier tenant GSM Partners will be given time to set up in the T-end buildings while contractors install lights and benches on the walkway and power-wash and treat its Kebony decking.

“We still have the goal having this thing before the end of the year,” Short said.
