Labor Day brings closings

Labor Day will be observed Sept. 7.

The holiday on the first Monday in September was created by the U.S. labor movement and is dedicated to the achievements of American workers.

Most government offices will be closed, including in Anna Maria, Bradenton Beach and Holmes Beach.

The fare-free island trolley will operate as normal, but Manatee County Area Transit buses will not run other fixed-route services or the Handy Bus service.

Trash and recycling pickups regularly scheduled for Mondays will be pushed to Tuesdays, and collection services may be pushed back through the week.

Manatee County parks, preserves and beaches will be open to the public.
