Andrea Catherine Foster

Andrea Catherine (deGruchy) Foster, 82, of Perico Island, died Aug. 30.

She was born Jan. 14, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, to Alfred and Ida deGruchy.

She spent her childhood and college years basking in Packanack Lake in Wayne, New Jersey.

Once captivated by the Florida Gulf coast, she relocated and raised her family on Anna Maria Island. She was a birdwatcher and an avid gardener. Her most notable passion was bicycling. She was acutely skilled at developing any child or plant into their full bloom.

She was a substitute teacher, PTO mom troop leader of Girl and Boy scouts at Anna Maria Elementary School, where her children attended and daughter Tiffany works part-time.

She is fondly remembered pedaling around the island, down the Palma Sola Causeway and around Bradenton on her beach cruiser with her blissful smile and silver glistening hair.

She shared and instilled a love of Florida waters and the mountains of Colorado in her children.

There is no service planned. Memorial donations may be made to Wildlife Inc., 2207 Ave. B, Bradenton Beach FL 34217.

She is survived by son Ryan and wife Kimber and daughter Tiffany and husband John Sanson; brother Doug and wife Pam de Gruchy; and she was “Nannan” to grandson Beau Sanson.
