Story Tools • • Buchanan gets renourishment money Congressman Vern Buchanan last week announced that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will reimburse Manatee County $1.736 million for costs associated with the 2002 Anna Maria Island beach renourishment project. Buchanan said he and other members of the house worked in a bipartisan effort to get the money from the Corp, which had entered into a cooperative agreement with the county, but failed to meet its end of the bargain. “For years, the Corps failed to fully reimburse the county for the project’s federal costs. I am pleased that with this payment the Corps has honored its commitment to the county.”
