A woman who escaped police custody and jumped off the Historic Bridge Street Pier in Bradenton Beach was ordered to serve 24 months on drug offender probation.
Rani Kristina Thurman, 33, of Holmes Beach, was charged with escape following her March 28 arrest by the Bradenton Beach Police Department.
After noticing a warrant for Thurman’s arrest in March, BBPD detained and handcuffed her in the 200 block of Bridge Street. As officers started to place her in the squad car, she fled to the Historic Bridge Street Pier and jumped in the water.
The BBPD called in the U.S. Coast Guard’s assistance and Pettigrew was found on a boat nearby.
The warrant stemmed from her failure to answer court summons on three prior charges, including two violations of probation, one related to a drug paraphernalia charge.
She was booked into the Manatee County jail and, in June, released on her recognizance to begin the 12th Judicial Circuit Court intervention program.
Pettigrew’s probation requires her participation in a specialized drug treatment program, including attendance at counseling sessions and random urinalysis.
