Only one company wants to take out the trash in Holmes Beach.
The city held a bid opening Feb. 20 for waste collection services and only one bidder — Waste Pro —made the deadline for the response to the request for proposals.
A representative from Waste Management arrived late to the bid opening and made a plea for an extension, but it was denied. The RFP did not allow a deadline extension.
Holmes Beach’s current five-year contract with Waste Management ends May 3.
Waste Management provides garbage, recycling and yard waste collection to Anna Maria and Waste Pro services Bradenton Beach.
According to Holmes Beach city clerk Stacey Johnston, details of the bid and negotiations between the city and Waste Pro will become public record March 23.
According to the requirements listed in the RFP, the new contract must include:
• Collection times between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
• Side-door service for a fee, primarily for rental properties.
• Free side-door service for physically impaired people.
• Special haul-away services.
• Include collection in public areas, such as beach accesses.
