A 24-year-old Bradenton man was ordered to drug court by 12th Circuit Court Chief Judge Andrew D. Owens Jr.
Holmes Beach Police Department stopped Brandon M. Starner in February for failing to wear a seatbelt and found cocaine, marijuana and paraphernalia in his possession.
The state formally charged Starner with felony cocaine possession and misdemeanor charges and he pleaded not guilty.
Owens ordered the drug program April 2.
The intent of the program is to break the cycle between crime and drugs and alleviate jail overcrowding.
To participate in the program, alleged offenders waive their right to a speedy trial and must appear in court regularly or face arrest and jail time.
The participants must participate in urinalyses and treatment, including group therapy, education and counseling.
