For the second time in five months, a man was arrested for attacking a woman in Cortez.
Adam E. Williams, 41, of Bradenton, was arrested April 23 for domestic battery by strangulation and false imprisonment after Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 10100 block of Cortez Road.
According to the MSCO report, Williams and the victim had been living together for six months.
As a deputy approached the front door, the report states he heard a woman screaming for help.
On entering the residence, the deputy allegedly saw blood on the floor and Williams and the woman exiting a bedroom. The woman was crawling and bleeding from her mouth, with one eye nearly swollen shut, according to the MCSO report.
Williams’ prior arrest for domestic violence stems from a January incident, according to MCSO reports. That felony case was closed March 2 by Assistant State Attorney Alexandra Crittenden.
The 12th Judicial Circuit Court State Attorney Office declined to pursue charges because the woman declined to cooperate and provide evidence to prove the case.
At Williams’ first court appearance on the April arrest, a public defender was appointed and a $100,000 bond set.
At press time for The Islander, Williams was in custody at the Manatee County jail.
His arraignment is set for May 22 at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave., Bradenton.
