Indoor adult soccer action continues at center
The standings for the adult soccer league at the Anna Maria Island Community Center remain tight from top to bottom, which likely will result in a competitive playoff race.
11-Man Gang is on top with a 5-2 record, just ahead of Sato Real Estate, which boasts a 4-2-1 record. The next five teams in the standings — LaPensee Plumbing, Eason Builders, Wash Family Construction, Smiledeep and Rebellion — all have three victories and Slim’s Place rounds out the standings with a 2-3-2 record.
The season is winding down, with only a few weeks on the schedule before playoffs begin.
Last week, 11 Man Gang edged Smiledeep 3-2 to open June 18 soccer action behind two goals from Chris Yavalar and one goal from Rico Beissert in the victory. Smiledeep received a goal each from Steve Oelfke and Danny Anderson in the loss, while Adam Bujarski chipped in with an assist.
Rebellion edged Wash Family Construction 5-4 in the second match of the evening, getting two goals from Brent Laudicina and a goal and two assists from Matt Plummer. Jesse Brisson and Dave Greene completed the scoring with a goal each in the Rebellion victory. Alisha Keene had a goal and an assist to lead Wash Family Construction, which also received goals from David Hiram, Drew Mitchell and Tyler Krauss in the loss.
Slim’s Place won its second game of the season in the third match of the night, getting two goals from Sean Sanders and one goal from Eric Pullen. Will Kretzman notched the lone goal from Eason Builders in the loss.
Bill Anderson scored two goals and Yuri Pereira added an assist to lead LaPensee Plumbing to a 2-1 victory over Sato Real Estate to close out the night’s soccer action. Teddy Loulouds notched the lone goal for Sato on an assist from Josh Sato.
Basketball update
Adult basketball continued at the Anna Maria Island Community Center with a pair of games played June 16. Gator Man Pools is running away with the regular season, boasting a 7-1 record. Team Ray and Team Mickan are tied for second place with matching 4-4 records. They are followed by Team Spcondra at 3-5, while Team Kern brings up the rear with a 2-6 record.
Team Kern defeated Team Spcondra 82-60 in the first game, while Gator Man Pools edged Team Ray 75-67 in the second game behind 26 points, eight rebounds and seveb assists from Aaron Dudukes and 23 points from Brandon Osmond. Dale Smith provided an inside presence in the victory with 16 points and 10 rebounds to complete the scoring for Gator Man.
Matt Ray’s 23 points and seven rebounds led Team Ray, which also received 18 points from Teagan Purtil and 15 points from Joe Combs in the loss.
Key Royale golf news
The men of Key Royale Club played morning and afternoon golf matches June 15. The morning saw them play a nine-hole, individual low-net match. Bill Schuman and Bob Dickinson tied for first place with matching 5-under-par 27s.
The men played nine holes in an afternoon modified-Stableford System or quota-points match. Dick Mills took first place with a score of plus-4 while Gary Razze and Dan Richardson tied for second place at plus-3.
The women of Key Royale Club played a nine-hole, low-net match with a twist. They were limited to only three clubs during their June 16 match. Most chose driver, pitching wedge and putter, but some chose to putt with their driver, hybrid or other irons.
Christina Mason carded a 1-under par 31 to take first place in Flight A by one stroke over Debi Wohlers after her even-par round of 32.
Joyce Lathrop and Sue Wheeler both had rounds of 3-under-par 29 to finish in a tie for first place in Flight B. Second place also produced a tie, as Terry Westby and Maryanne Kaemmerlen finished with matching 2-under-par 30s.
Mason had a chipin on No. 2, while Kaemmerlin did the trick on hole No. 6.
The men were back on the course June 18 for a nine-hole team scramble. The foursome of Tim Friessen, Art McMillan, Dick Mills and Quentin Talbert combined on a 5-under-par 27 to earn clubhouse bragging rights for the day.
Horseshoe news
Two teams emerged from pool play during June 17 horseshoe action at the Anna Maria City Hall horseshoe pits. Tim Sofran walked his way past the team of Steve Doyle and Neil Hennessey by a 21-12 score to earn a walk to the winner’s circle.
The team of Sam Samuels and Steve Grossman were the outright champions June 20 as they alone with a 3-0 record in pool play.
Play gets underway at 9 a.m. every Wednesday and Saturday at the Anna Maria City Hall pits. Warmups begin at 8:45 a.m. followed by random team selection.
There is no charge to play and everyone is welcome.
