The Feast outlasts Signarama on center football field

The Feast rode three touchdown passes from Dalton Guthrie and a strong defensive effort from the team to defeat Signarama 26-12 Jan. 20 in 11-13 division flag football action at The Center of Anna Maria.

The game was much closer than the score would seem to indicate, especially in the first half. The Feast appeared to take an early 6-0 lead at the 13:16 mark. Guthrie hit Conal Cassidy for 13 yards and followed with a 15-yard completion to Lucious Catlett, giving the Feast second and goal at the 6-yard line. Guthrie hit Cassidy for an apparent touchdown, but the play was called back on a penalty.

After trading offensive possessions, Signarama broke through to take a 6-0 lead thanks to a 30-yard pass-and-catch from Mack May to Tommy Zinna. May then connected with Devin Calderon for 6 yards before coming back to Zinna for a 5-yard touchdown pass and the first score of the game.

Signarama’s 6-0 lead held until the half, but the Feast changed that on the first possession of the second half. After a pair of incomplete passes and facing third and long, Guthrie hit Ozzy Lonzo for 30 yards, giving them the ball deep in Signarama territory. Guthrie followed with a 10-yard strike to Brandon Annis before hitting Nathan Hyman for a 5-yard touchdown pass that tied the score at 6-6. He then connected with Lonzo for the two-point conversion and an 8-6 Feast lead.

Signarama retook the lead at the 12:08 mark thanks in part to a 33-yard run by Zinna that gave them the ball on the 8-yard line. After an incomplete pass, May connected with Calderon for an 8-yard touchdown pass and a 12-8 lead.

The Feast came right back to retake the lead for good on just two plays. Guthrie connected with Hyman for 25 yards and a first down and, on the next play, connected with Shawn Balvin for a 20-yard touchdown pass and a 14-12 lead.

Signarama attempted to answer as May connected with Trevor Vierra on consecutive passes for six and 12 yards giving them a first down. On the next play, May’s pass to Calderon was intercepted by Hyman, who took it in for a 30-yard touchdown and a 20-12 lead.

Undaunted, Signarama marched right back down the field with their next possession on consecutive passes from May to Calderon — a first down. May then connected with Calderon and Zinna, giving them third down and goal deep in Feast territory, but May’s third-down attempt was knocked down by Hyman in the end zone to preserve Feast’s 20-12 lead with only 3:36 left to play.

The Feast ended any hope of a Signarama comeback on its next possession, as Guthrie hooked up with Hyman on consecutive passes, the last one going for 30 yards and a touchdown to close out the game with The Feast on top, 26-12.

Guthrie finished with three touchdown passes on the day, while Hyman did a little bit of everything, catching two touchdown passes, adding an interception return for a touchdown and making seven flag pulls. Balvin added one touchdown reception and Lonzo had a 2-point conversion in the victory.

Zinna and Calderon had touchdown receptions to lead Signarama, which also received two touchdown passes from May. May and Cole Murphy added interceptions to lead the Signarama defense in the loss.
