Print Wizards was at the top all season long in the 11-13 division standings for the Center of Anna Maria Island’s youth soccer league and they stood up to their ranking in the playoffs.
Print Wizards easily dispatched its opponents in the semifinal and final matches Nov. 10 to win the 11-13 soccer championship.
The Wizards first cruised to a 6-0 victory over AM I Coconuts in the semis behind three goals and an assist from Parker Svoboda. Luca Viehman added a pair of goals and goalie Kellen Reed added a goal to go along with his six saves.
AM I Coconuts received five saves from Andre Harwood in the loss.
The other semifinal match saw Solid Rock Construction and La Creperie battle to a 2-2 tie, sending it to a penalty-kick shootout that was won by La Creperie.
Tristan Hagey and Louis Bacon each scored a goal in the draw, while Jordan Tobey notched 18 saves.
Solid Rock Construction received two goals from Callin Westfall and five saves from Elijah Roadman in the loss.
The finals saw Print Wizards earn a dominant 3-0 victory over La Creperie that saw a chance for only one save by goalie Kellen Reed in the victory, while Luca Viehman provided the offense with three goals.
Jordan Tobey tallied five saves for La Creperie.
The six-team 8-10 division soccer playoffs got started with quarterfinal action Nov. 11 with Vida Sports Ministry cruising to a 5-0 victory over Beach Bums behind four goals and an assist from JJ Smith and a goal from Heidi Bannick. Everett Hood helped preserve the victory with four saves.
Leo Ciasullo kept Beach Bums in the match with nine saves in the loss.
The second match saw Solid Rock Construction and AMI Outfitters battle to a 1-1 tie, sending the match to a penalty-kick shootout that was won by Solid Rock Construction.
Samuel Raulerson paced Solid Rock with one goal and four saves in regulation, while Jeremiah Raulerson also contributed four saves.
Phoenix Harwood scored the lone goal for AMI Outfitters, which received six saves from Judah Treworgy in the loss.
Semifinal action was set for Nov. 18, with Adrian Griffin Interiors taking on Solid Rock Construction and Vida Sports Ministry facing off against Moss Builders — all after press time for The Islander.

Adult soccer action
After 10 weeks of action in the adult soccer league at the center, the top five teams in the standings have earned a bye into the second round of playoffs.
Pool America at 10-0, Moss Builders at 7-2-1, Ross Built at 6-2-2 and Bubble Binz and Sato Real Estate, both with 6-4 records, will watch and see which team they draw for the playoffs.
No. 6 seed Florida Impact Windows takes on 11th seed Slim’s Place to open playoff action, followed by Language Services Associates taking on Solid Rock Construction. Duncan Real Estate then battles West Coast Marine Construction to round out first-round playoff matchups.
Key Royale golf news
More than 60 members of the Key Royale Club in Holmes Beach celebrated the U.S. Marine Corps’ 250th birthday with special recognition for club member and retired staff Sgt. Dale Hudson at the special age of 96 years young.
The day got even more special for Hudson and the club when Lt. Col. Shannon Potts and Major Brian Watkins, stationed in Tampa with the U.S. Marine Force Central Command Center at MacDill Air Force Base, joined the celebration.
A birthday cake was cut and served by the Marines along with appetizers and refreshments.
The Key Royale men played their weekly modified-Stableford system match Nov. 10 with Tom Erdle lapping the field with a plus-4. The foursome of Doug Kristensen, Blake Ress, Gary Risner and Earl Ritchie were three points back in a tie for second place.
There was no golf Nov. 11, Veterans Day, as it was too cold!
Members were back on the course Nov. 13 for a nine-hole scramble. The team of Herb Clauhs, Jim Goff, Heather Lute and Ken Kari combined on a 3-under-par 29 to win the day’s bragging rights. The team of Brian Comer, Julia Fay, Dale Hudson and Quentin Talbert were one stroke back in second.
Horseshoe action
Nov. 12 horseshoe action at the Anna Maria City Hall pits saw two teams emerge from pool play with 3-0 records to settle things in a playoff.
Bob Hawks found his way to the winner’s circle after cruising to a 21-13 victory over Bob Lee and Gary Howcroft.
Hawks then walked his way back into the mix during the Nov. 15 games.
He drew the bye into the finals and watched as Lee and Gersey Fernandes eliminated Tom Skoloda and Dom Livedoti 22-1. In the championship match, Hawks was leading 20-19 when Fernandes stepped up and threw a double-ringer to put a dramatic end to the match and give a 25-20 victory to Lee and Fernandes.
Play gets underway at 9 a.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Anna Maria pits. Warmups begin at 8:45 a.m., followed by random team selection.
There is no charge to play and everyone is welcome.
