The West Manatee Fire District Board of Commissioners held a hearing Nov. 17 for a resolution to pay the elected commisioners a monthly honorarium of $250.
Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve the resolution.
The resolution was proposed Oct. 20 by Fire Chief Tom Sousa. According to his research, most area fire-rescue district commissioners receive monthly stipends.
Commissioners for the WMFR so not receive compensation. Among other independent special fire districts, Sousa said, only Immokalee Fire Control District did not provide commissioners with compensation. Other districts pay commissioners between $250 and $500 per month.
The resolution will go into effect Dec. 1. Commissioners will begin receiving a stipend by the end of the year.
No public comments were made Nov. 17 regarding the resolution.
A board meeting, scheduled for Dec. 16, was canceled at the Nov. 17 meeting. The next meeting is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at the administrative office, 6417 Third Ave. W., Bradenton.
