Holmes Beach police Sept. 4 arrested Sarasota resident Ivan Markov, 19, on a third-degree felony charge for possession of THC oil, a controlled substance.
Markov also was charged with two first-degree misdemeanors for possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
An officer conducted a traffic stop on a motorist he saw fail to stop at a flashing red traffic light.
The officer spoke with the driver, Markov, and smelled marijuana from inside the vehicle.
Markov and his passenger said they did not have medical marijuana cards and denied having any marijuana inside the vehicle.
After a call for backup, the officer detained the pair.
During a search of the vehicle, the officers found a bag containing two glass pipes, a plastic bag containing 12.5 grams of marijuana, a grinder and a glass jar containing 0.7 grams of crystallized THC oil.
Markov claimed sole possession of the items and the officers arrested and transported him to the Manatee County jail.
Markov was released later the same day to the Manatee County Pretrial Services program without bond.
If convicted, punishment for a third-degree felony includes up to five years in prison, five years on probation and a fine of up to $5,000.
Punishment for a first-degree misdemeanor includes up to one year in jail, one year on probation and a fine of up to $1,000.
An arraignment will be at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
