Teri Cooper, 35, of Webster, has finished serving her 20-month prison sentence for grand theft of a motor vehicle.
But additional convictions in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties will keep her behind bars for a couple more years.
Cooper’s convictions began with an Aug. 29, 2020, arrest at Coquina Beach in Bradenton Beach.
Cooper, who was 31 at the time, was stopped by a Bradenton Beach police officer for driving a vehicle that was reported stolen.
She was arrested on a third-degree felony charge for alleged grand theft of a motor vehicle and a second-degree misdemeanor charge for driving with a suspended or revoked license.
She pleaded not guilty.
In November 2022, Cooper changed her plea to no contest and she was found guilty. She was sentenced to 20 months in prison, with 388 days credited for previous time served in jail.
That sentence would have expired July 8, 2023, if it did not run concurrently with other sentences from convictions in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.
In Pinellas County, a sixth circuit judge ruled Aug. 25, 2022, that Cooper was guilty of three third-degree felony charges for attempted burglary and sentenced her to 60 months in prison, with 253 days credited.
In Hillsborough, Cooper was found guilty of seven felony charges, including second-degree felony charges for burglary of an occupied dwelling and dealing in stolen property, as well as third-degree felony charges for grand theft of a firearm and providing false information on a pawnbroker form.
A 13th Circuit Court judge sentenced her on Oct. 10, 2022, to serve 60 months in prison, with 332 days credited.
Since the sentences are concurrent, meaning they run at the same time, Cooper will be eligible for release by Dec. 15, 2026 — when her sentence out of Pinellas County expires.
Cooper is carrying out her sentences at a Florida Department of Corrections state prison facility.
