Nov. 13, 4528 119th St W., Cortez Kitchen, threats. Manatee County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report that a terminated employee had threatened to shoot a current worker. Deputies documented the allegation and an incident report was filed.
Holmes Beach
Nov. 13, 6400 block of Flotilla Drive, computer hack. A man called the Holmes Beach Police Department to report that his computer was hacked and his identity might have been stolen. The man said he used AI to try to find a number for Microsoft customer support, but it connected him with a hacker instead. He said he provided access to his computer and the hacker copied PC documents. An officer referred the caller to the Federal Trade Commission to report the identity theft.
Nov. 13, 2800 block of Gulf Drive, fake identification/obstruction and resisting arrest without violence. An officer located a motorist pinged by the city’s license plate recognition system and conducted a traffic stop. The officer spoke to the driver, who said he was the son of the vehicle’s registered owner, but provided a fake name and birth date. The officer arrested him. Afterward, the man’s passenger, who appeared intoxicated, refused to leave the scene. An officer went to handcuff the woman, but she pulled away and began to flee. The officers arrested her and transported both people to the Manatee County jail.
Nov. 14, 100 block of 52nd Street, fraud. A man called the HBPD to report that an unknown person opened a credit card through his bank account and numerous transactions, totaling almost $8,000, were completed at a store in New York. He said he was disputing the transactions.
