Oktoberfest kicks off KRC, soccer rules at community center

The youth soccer league at The Center of Anna Maria Island completed week 2 of its fall season.

In the all-girls division, Bubble Binz is 2-0, just ahead of 1-0 Print Wizards and 1-1 Anna Maria Island Rental Cars in the five-team division. Opal & Pearl Cleaning at 0-1 and 0-2 Jiffy Lube complete the standings.

Action for the girls division kicked off Sept. 28 with Print Wizards cruising to a 6-1 victory over Jiffy Lube behind four goals from Jordyn Autry and a pair of goals from Kierstyn Darak. Bayla Lance made five saves to help preserve the victory.

Finley Rupp scored the lone goal for Jiffy Lube, which also received six combined saves from Rella Olson and Lainey Reed in the loss.

The second game of the evening saw Bubble Binz edge AMI Rental Cars 4-3. Heidi Bannick led the way with two goals, while Lumyn Fetzer and Williabel Welch each scored one. Welch and Abigail Castagna combined to make seven saves in the victory.

Ariyah Carlton, Juliette Sato  and Scarlett Hoogewind each scored for AMI Rental Cars, which also received eight combined saves in the loss from Loretta Hopkins and Adeline Bystrom.

The 8-10 co-ed division is currently led by Adrian Griffin Interiors and AMI Rental Cars with matching 2-0 records. Vida Sports Ministry at 1-0-1 holds down third place, followed closely by Pizza Social at 1-1. Leading Edge Investments and Q’s Beach Boutique are tied with matching 0-1-1 records, while Orca Pro Marine and Taylor High Pressure are both 0-2.

Action for the 8-10s kicked off Sept. 29 with Vida Sports Ministry defeating Q’s Beach Boutique 2-0. Jeremiah Raulerson and Judah Long each scored a goal, while Houston Winn and Jonah Suchovsky combined on six saves in the win.

Nathan Moss helped keep Q’s Beach Boutique in the game with 12 saves in the loss.

Pizza Social edged Orca Pro Marine 2-1 in the second game of the evening behind two goals from Cooper Patel and four combined saves from Jordan Simonetti and Karl Breitinger.

Maclen Wright notched the lone goal for Orca Pro Marine, which also received six combined saves from Joshua Bratnichenko, Dax Walker and Isla Nick in the loss.

The third match of the night saw AMI Rental Cars edge Leading Edge Investments 4-3 behind two goals from Max Fox and a goal each from Mason Bekkerus and Ruthie Ball. Beau Blenker helped preserve the win with six saves.

Houston Collins, Jack Warbington and Finn Viehman each scored single goals for Leading Edge, which also received nine saves from Mason Stein in the loss.

Jackson Griffin scored four goals and Kalvin Kroth came through with seven saves to lead Adrian Griffin Interiors to a 4-2 victory over Taylor High Pressure in the last 8-10 game of the night.

Kierstyn Darak and Sailor Soultatos each scored a goal for Taylor High Pressure, which also received five combined saves from Luca Campos and Bryer Lamb in the loss.

The standings in the 11-13 division have Print Wizards on top with a 2-0 record, just ahead of 1-1 La Creperie and USA Fence, while Blueberries Cafe is 0-2.

Action in the 11-13s got going Sept. 29 with USA Fence outscoring Blueberries Cafe 6-4 behind three goals from Colten DeBerry and two goals each from Owen Guth and Asher Patel. Everett Hood closed out the win with eight saves for USA Fence.

Luca Viehman scored three goals and Samuel Raulerson added a goal to lead Blueberries, which also received 10 combined saves from Elijah Roadman and Ruby Kesten in the loss.

Joseph Caballero scored four goals and Parker Svoboda scored three to lead Print Wizards to a 10-0 victory over La Creperie in the last 11-13 division game of the evening. Charlie Eskilson added two goals, Jedidiah Smith scored one goal and Titus Moss finished with six saves in the victory.

Caleb Bratnichenko made six saves for La Creperie in the loss.

The standings are tight in the three-team 14-17 division with Solid Rock Construction on top with a 2-0-2 record, just ahead of GML Coatings at 2-2. Print Wizards completes the standings with an 0-2-2 record.

Action kicked off Sept. 29 with Print Wizards and Solid Rock battling to a 4-4 tie. Sergio Hernandez scored three goals and Kegan McGlade added a goal to lead Print Wizards, while Ryk Kesten and Callin Westfall each scored two goals to lead Solid Rock Construction.

The second game of the night saw GML Coatings edge Print Wizards 2-1 behind two goals from Renan Kesten.

Luca Viehman scored the lone goal for Print Wizards on an assist from Kegan McGlade.

The last 14-17 match of the night saw Solid Rock Construction earn a 3-1 victory over GML Coatings. Ryk Kesten scored two goals and Isaac Roadman added a goal in the win.

Renan Kesten scored one goal and Austin Guess made eight saves for GML Coatings in the loss.

 

Key Royale golf news

There was a full week of golf action at the Key Royale Club in Holmes Beach last week, starting Sept. 28 with the men’s Stableford System and skins match.

Earl Ritchie and Linda Dorsey finished in a tie for first place at plus-3, a point ahead of second-place finisher Mike Clements.

Larry Pippel, Ken Nagengast and Tom Nelson each won skins.

Sue Wheeler rode a birdie on the eighth hole to a 3-under-par 29 to take first place in the ladies’ individual-low-net match – Sept. 29. Janet Razze was a stroke back in second, while Anne Klein was alone in third place with a 1-under-par 31.

Members played a nine-hole scramble on Oct. 1 in a warmup for the Oct. 2 Oktoberfest Scramble.

Jim Goff, Bill Shuman and Rich Salzburg combined on a 3-under-par 29, one stroke ahead of second-place finishers Leo Burke and Deb and Dave Richardson.

The Oktoberfest Scramble on Oct. 2 saw the team of Dan Batz, Rene Chapman, Jim Goff and Mary Ann Latham combine on a 5-under-par 27 to win clubhouse bragging rights for the day. Leo Burke, Joe Coyne, Jana Samuels and Warren Stevens took second place with a 3-under-par 29.

Clarissa Hill won the long-drive contest for the ladies, while Jim Goff and Warren Stevens tied for the men’s long drive. Dan Batz won closest-to-the-pin and Rene Chapman and Greg Rowley won the day’s putting contest.

 

Horseshoe news

For the second week in a row, horseshoe action at the Anna Maria City Hall pits was short and sweet. There wer two outright winners.

On Sept. 30, Gersey Fernandes and Steve Kriebel posted the lone 3-0 record during pool play, while the Oct. 3 games saw Tim Sofran post the only 3-0 record.

Play gets underway at 9 a.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Anna Maria City Hall pits. Warmups begin at 8:45 a.m. followed by random team selection. There is no charge to play and all are welcome.
