Daniel Laurance Lordobit-lord.dan

Daniel Laurance Lord, 67, of Cortez, died July 10.

was born May 15, 1949, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He move to Florida in his early 20s and instantly transformed into a true Floridian.

His love for food propelled him to become a fixture on the island restaurant scene. He also had a passion for music, often jumping on stage with the local bands to play harmonics — he rarely left home without them.

Possibly his greatest attribute was his gift of gab. He made friends with everyone he met. He will be missed by all, but his stories will carry on forever.

A celebration of life was to be held after press time 6-8 p.m.Monday, July 18, at O’Shucks Raw Bar & Grill, 12012 Cortez Road, Cortez.

Mr. Lord is survived by son Simon; daughter-in-law Dana; grandchildren Cameron and Grant; brother Chris; sister-in-law Mary; nieces Amber, Ivy, Megan and Courtney; and nephew Thomas.

 

Diana McManawayobit-mcmanaway

Diana McManaway, 66 of Holmes Beach, died June 23.

She was born Oct 21, 1949, in Illinois but, having moved to Florida more than 40 years ago, became a Floridian.

Over the years she loved spending many hours on the water. Her passions also included motorcycle riding, scuba diving, horseback riding, dancing and singing.

Her lifelong work was in business administration and the insurance industry. She was involved as a volunteer and served on the board of directors at the Center of Anna Maria Island, where she always was ready to lend a hand.

She is survived by son Darin; daughter Lori Leonhearth and husband John; grandson Austin Leonhearth; sister Donna Wienckowski and husband Jerry; brothers George and Alan Bravieri and sister-in-law Debbie; sister Cherice Hood; nephews Robert Moszkiewicz and David Moszkiewicz; and her beloved dog Trolli.

 

David E. Mitchell

David E. Mitchell, 67 of Anna Maria, died July 10.

He was a graduate of the University of Florida with a degree in engineering and owned the firm Drywall Mechanics for many years before retiring in 2015.

He was an island resident since 1963.

He and wife Sue watched over their children and adored their grandchildren and he aided his mother in her quest to stay independent.

A family memorial service was planned. Arrangements were by Good Earth Crematory.

He is survived by mother Barbara K. Zerby of Holmes Beach who was married to the late James Zerby, a mayor of Holmes Beach; wife Sue Mitchell; brothers Frank of Seattle and Timothy Monahan-Mitchell of Longmont, Colorado; children Sarah Griffin of Tallahassee, Matthew and Eric Edixon and Mark and Seth Mitchell, all of Manatee County; five grandchildren; numerous nieces; grandnephews; and cousins.

 

Pieter G.V. Thomassenobit-thomassen

Pieter G.V. Thomassen, 84 of Holmes Beach, died July 13 in Bradenton.

He was born June 13, 1932.

He earned his bachelor’s and juris doctor degrees at the University of Michigan. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He served for 26 years as a judge in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was a member of the American Judges Association, the American Bar Association, the state bar of Michigan and the Washtenaw County Bar Association. He enjoyed golf, sailing and fishing and was a member of the Ann Arbor and Anna Maria Rotary clubs, as well as the Key Royale Golf Club.

Memorials in Holmes Beach and Ann Arbor will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice in Bradenton, in care of Tidewell Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Eleanor; sons Pieter and wife Laura and Bruce and wife Sophia of Seattle; daughter Kirsten and husband Ken Lane of Seattle; stepson Jeff Gerstenberger  and wife Julie of Rochester, New York; grandchildren Haley and Eliza Lane, Marleigh and Brett Thomassen, Dominick Hatcher, Gavin and Austin Thomassen, and Alex Gerstenberger; sister Mimi Miskovsky of Seattle.
