Shaughnessy, Breuler to take oath

John Shaughnessy was set to take the oath of office to become Bradenton Beach’s next mayor at 1 p.m. Nov. 14.

The short program was to take place after The Islander went to press this week.

Commissioner Gay Breuler, Ward 1, also was to take the oath of the office at city hall, 107 Gulf Drive N. She is beginning her second term.

Neither Breuler nor Shaughnessy, who succeeds Bob Bartelt, faced opposition in their election bids this month.

In the coming weeks, the city commission must appoint a Ward 3 commissioner to succeed Janie Robertson, who could not run again because of a city term-limit rule. No one sought the office in Ward 3, one of the largest geographic wards in the city with a high number of part-time residents and rental properties.
