Citing her love for “hands on” work, former Manatee County Commissioner Jane von Hahmann filed for supervisor of elections after learning that longtime supervisor Bob Sweat would not seek another term.
She gave Sweat high praise for what he has done for the office and acknowledged the position as “a lot of hard work. It’s a real job and requires a lot of hands on work, and that’s what I love.”
She said she isn’t in politics to “get my name out there. I do it because I love to give back to my community.”
She told The Islander Monday that she understands what the position entails from her time serving as county commissioner.
“I’ve worked on the canvassing boards, so I understand the process,” she said.
