Pieter Moen Hahn
Pieter Moen Hahn, 60, of Bradenton, died Aug. 25. He was born July 5, 1954, in Wareham, Massachusetts, and was raised on Cape Cod in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
Mr. Hahn also resided in Hatchville, Sandwich and Hyannis, Massachusetts, Fort Walton Beach, Florida and Barbados.
He was a 1973 graduate of Falmouth High School and attended Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, Massachusetts.
Mr. Hahn’s brother Ben Mixter of Fantasy Travel said, “The world has lost a wonderful loved , treasured by family and friends and a fantastic travel agent with a pouch of “pixie dust” to help fix emergencies and find impossible reservations.”
There will be no service, however, two celebrations of life are planned at a later date, on Anna Maria Island and at Nobska Beach in Woods Hole.
The family asks that memorials be made by giving a flower to a loved one or friend; a call to a relative, friend, or classmate you haven’t spoken to recently; or donate to a church, charity, service or veterans organization.
Mr. Hahn is survived by brother Benjamin A. Mixter and wife Terri of Big Pine Key; sisters Tineke of Stuart, Erika of Falmouth, Massachusetts, and Heidi Lepage of Uxbridge, Massachusetts; aunt Alison Alton Robb of North Falmouth, Massachusetts; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; honorary adopted big sister, Dee Ferreira, and honorary brothers Ron Jarvis and Phillip Thrapp; and his friends at Fantasy Travel.
Richard Austin Hussey
Richard Austin Hussey, age 89, died Aug. 31. He was a resident of Manatee County since 1989 and lived in Bradenton since 1995.
He was born in 1924 in Milton, Massachusetts, the fifth of eight children to Philip and Irene Hussey. He graduated high school just in time to enlist in the U.S. Army for World War II. He served in Europe as part of the Army Corps of Engineers.
He spent his work life in the elevator industry, with 20 years for Haughton Elevator Company and 20 years for Stanley Elevator Company in Nashua, New Hampshire, where he served as vice president and service manager. He retired in 1990 to Milbridge, Maine, where he became active in community affairs. He helped modernize the town library, and served as chair of the board of selectmen. He served on the board of the Milbridge Historical Society and as chair when the group built a museum to preserve the town’s shipbuilding history.
Mr. Hussey served as senior warden in three parishes in the Episcopal Church. When he came to Florida, he became involved with the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation in Holmes Beach. He completed two terms on the vestry. He served as a Eucharistic visitor, taking communion to the homebound. He was a charter member of the men’s group.
He was a bridge-builder in every sense of the word — bringing people together, involving and engaging them in common causes, community efforts and shared commitments.
A celebration of life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation, 4408 Gulf Drive, Holmes Beach, followed by a reception. Memorial donations may be made to the church, 4408 Gulf Drive, Holmes Beach FL 34217.
Mr. Hussey is survived by his wife of 39 years, Terry; children Cheryl Crockett of Brunswick, Maine, Neil of Alton, New Hampshire, and Linda Ricard of Nashua, New Hampshire; step-children Mark Votaw of Canton, Ohio, James Votaw of Washington, D.C., and Suzanne Sparrow of Arlington, Virginia; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brothers Jack of Naples, Florida; Donald of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, and George of Phoenix; and sister Eleanor Markhard of Chatham, Massachusetts.
Donald William Meilner Sr.
Donald William Meilner Sr., 98, of Bradenton and Bradenton Beach, died Aug. 30. He was born Dec. 18, 1915, in Chicago.
He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He retired from Western Electric Co. and moved to Bradenton in 1977.
A celebration of life and open house for friends and family will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at the home of Don and JoAnn Meilner.
Mr. Meilner was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Natalie. He is survived by sister Mary Deneen; brother Edward and wife Phyllis; daughter Judith Snyder; son Don Jr. and wife JoAnn; grandchildren Kelly Stanton, Erik Henriksen and wife Jill and Amelia Talucci and husband Nathan; great-grandchildren Melissa Howell and husband Oakley, Sydney Stanton, and Jacob, Evan, and Natalie Talucci; and great-great-grandson Jameson Howell.
Roy Allen Davis
Dr. Roy Allen Davis, M.D., 91, died Aug. 31.
He graduated from Creston High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, commanding an LCI (G) 455 ship before completing his education at Hope College and Wayne State University School of Medicine. Upon completing his training, he served as a missionary to Nigeria for the Christian Reformed Church.
Returning to Grand Rapids, he maintained a private family practice. He later served as medical director of the Ferris State College Health Center in Big Rapids and served at Kent Community Hospital in Grand Rapids.
After retiring, he served as a short-term medical missionary in Niger, Nepal and various Native American Reservation Health Clinics. He volunteered for many years at the Bradenton Salvation Army. He supported TEAM and many other missionaries.
Dr. Davis was a member of Leighton Church in Michigan, later became part of the family at Highlands ARP Church, and served his last years as a deacon and member of Roser Memorial Community Church. He enjoyed contributing inspirational comments at the weekly adult Sunday school class at Roser Church.
A memorial service was held Sept. 5 at Roser Church. Interment was a military cemetery at the Sarasota National Cemetery. Dr. Davis is survived by his children, Martha Dezwaan, Roy and wife Amy, Bonnie and husband Mark Hornby, Nancy Ann and husband Mark Hall, and Mary and husband Jack Klunder; 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; and Cheryl Daniels, his best friend and soulmate.
Wilma Grace Tuit
Wilma Grace Tuit, nee VanOstenbridge, 85, died Sept. 2 in Apopka, Florida.
She lived in Prospect Park, New Jersey, before relocating to Holmes Beach. She was an active member of Palma Sola Community Church while living in Bradenton.
Mrs. Tuit is predeceased by her husband, Nicholas Sr. She is survived by daughter Linda and husband Paul Bruno of Vernon, New Jersey; sons Nicholas and wife Cynthia of Mt. Plymouth, Florida, Kenneth and wife Geri of Wantage, New Jersey, and David of Bradenton; nine grandchildren; and grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
