Samuel F McDowell
Samuel F. McDowell, 78, of Bradenton and formerly of Anna Maria, died Aug. 26. He was born Sept. 1, 1935.
Mr. McDowell was a longtime board member and volunteer for the Island Players theater in Anna Maria, and performed to much acclaim in many of the theater’s productions.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept 17, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 248 S. Harbor Drive, Holmes Beach, with inurnment to follow.
Richard F. Schluederberg Sr.
Richard F. Schluederberg Sr., 91, of Holmes Beach, died Sept 10. He was born in Pittsburgh, grew up in Lakewood, Ohio, and graduated from University School, Shaker Heights, Ohio.
He served during World War II in the U.S. Army 66th (Black Panther) Infantry Division in the Northern France Campaign, fighting Nazi forces near St. Nazaire until the surrender of Germany.
Mr. Schluederberg began his career in security analysis and portfolio management in 1949 at Mercantile-Safe Deposit and Trust Co. and Naess and Thomas in Baltimore. In 1962, he moved to New York City, where he worked at Brundage Story & Rose and Lionel D. Edie & Co. In 1976, he returned to Baltimore to join Maryland National Bank as senior portfolio manager, retiring in 1991 as senior vice president, Bank of America.
He was a member of sailing teams at Cornell University and Ohio State University and a lifetime member of the International Star Class Yacht Racing Association. He raced cruising-class boats on Long Island Sound for Noroton Bay Yacht Club and on Chesapeake Bay for Potapskut Sailing Association and Gibson Island Yacht Squadron.
He competed on varsity track teams at Cornell and Ohio State and participated in the 1945 athletic games in Nuremberg, Germany.
He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ann Snider; children Suzanne of Ann Arbor Michigan, Richard Jr. of Florida, C. Jeffrey of Bel Air, Maryland, Peter of San Elijo Hills, California and Scott of Elkridge Maryland; and grandchildren Rachelle Lesko, Eric, Evan, Katie, Quinton, Kelly and Lauren.
Verna Evelyn Snow
Verna Evelyn Snow, 88, of Bradenton, died Aug. 25. She was born March 8, 1926, in Copper County, Michigan.
After vacationing on Anna Maria Island for more than 35 years and one too many winters in Michigan, Verna and husband Bill Snow moved to Anna Maria Island in 1992.
Mrs. Snow was a respected early-American antique collector and dealer. One of her proudest accomplishments was having her 1854 northern Michigan farmhouse featured in Country Living magazine.
The Snows enjoyed many trips on their boat, Antique Lady, and in their airplane.
Her other passions included designing and planting her many gardens, painting Florida wildlife and the northern landscapes of Canada and Michigan. She also enjoyed entertaining and preparing gourmet meals.
A service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, the Roser Chapel, 512 Pine Ave., Anna Maria. A celebration of life at the Snow residence will follow the service. Mrs. Snow is survived by her husband of 70 Years, William (Bill); daughters Debra Dykema of Traverse City, Michigan, Valerie of Anna Maria Island; son William P. and wife Pam of Gaylord, Michigan; special Florida daughter Barbara Zdravecky of Anna Maria; grandchildren Kevin and wife Kelly Fossum, Matthew Dykema, Elizabeth and husband Nick Jablonski, Brandie and husband Hank Corden, Corrie and husband Troy Nault, Kylie and Taylor; great-grandchildren and many friends.
June R. Yankee
June R. Yankee, 96, of Royal Oak, Michigan and Anna Maria Island, died Sept. 10. She graduated Highland Park High School, Michigan.
She first came to Florida with her mother, Grace Breitmeyer, and opened the Highland Park Cottages in Ellenton in 1938. She and her husband started Yankee Manufacturing in Michigan, a producer of world-class fishing tackle. The company, which evolved into Yankee Screw Products, is still active in Holly, Michigan.

Mrs. Yankee’s husband was William and they had four children, Judy Bilkie, Betty Jones, Gilbert and Michael, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
