Construction and maintenance continues to take place on the Cortez Bridge, where motorists are bumping their way over the waterway due to crews jacking the bridge to remove and replace expansion bearings.
That work will continue until mid-November, according to the Florida Department of Transportation, which issued the following alerts for motorists driving in the area the week of Oct. 20:
• State Road 684/Cortez Road at the Cortez Bridge from east of Gulf Drive to west of 127th Street West: Crews will work on the bridge beams and fender wall.
Crews will also work Thursday nights 9 p.m.-6 a.m. until December on concrete pouring.
Other work on this project includes general maintenance and repairs to the bridge span, beams, piling, seawall and bridge tender house.
Quinn Construction, Inc. is the contractor for the work, which is expected to continue until early 2015.
• State Road 789/Gulf Drive from State Road 684 to 28th Street: Crews are replacing a power pole so motorists should expect northbound lane closures 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through Friday, Nov. 14.
• State Road 684 from 103rd Street to 119th Street: Crews are replacing power poles. The outside eastbound lane will close 9 a.m.-4 p.m. through Friday, Nov. 14.
The DOT advises that motorists who encounter roadwork should expect delays and use caution.
