To park or not to park?
The Holmes Beach city commission will discuss and take public comment on the city traffic committee’s recommendation to ban parking in residential neighborhoods at a work session at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29.
The ban is proposed for all residential streets in the city.
The traffic committee met Jan. 9 in anticipation of the meeting.
“We encourage everyone to come. Bring your neighbors and folks that want to share their thoughts with commissioners,” said Jaynie Christensen, chair of the committee.
If approved, the city would prohibit residential parking except by a $10 permit through the police department.
Residents Sara and Jay Calhoun attended the meeting and urged members to consider that homes such as theirs — not only vacation homes — use the street for parking.
“We moved here from Tampa, so we don’t see an issue. It’s all relative,” Jay Calhoun said.
The committee excluded LLC’s and corporations from obtaining permits, while renters of more than 30 days would be granted permits. The committee also exempted golf carts.
The commission has the final decision on the traffic committee’s proposed parking ban.
