A Manatee County Sheriff’s deputy arrested a 35-year-old Holmes Beach man in connection with a cellphone theft after being dispatched to investigate a suspicious vehicle.
Nicholas Lee Armstrong, of the 6300 block of Holmes Boulevard, was arrested Feb. 9 on a warrant for a Dec. 23 theft from a Sprint store, 4808 Cortez Road W., Bradenton.
Deputy Craig Davis arrested Armstrong after being called to a neighborhood in east Manatee about a slow-moving white Cadillac.
Upon the deputy’s arrival, he observed the car pull into a residential driveway and the driver get out, lift the vehicle’s hood and knock on the door to the house, according to Davis’ probable cause report.
The resident allegedly told the officer she did not know Armstrong.
Armstrong advised Davis he did not have a driver’s license and was looking for a friend to go to the courthouse to get it fixed, and that his car wouldn’t start, according to the deputy’s report.
Armstrong was charged with a misdemeanor, driving with a suspended license and felony grand theft for stealing an LG G3 cellphone valued at $600 from Sprint.
He was booked into the Manatee County jail.
Armstrong posted $1,620 in bonds and was released.
His arraignment is set for 9 a.m. March 11 in the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
