“Let’s talk about Paws in Motion,” said Humane Society of Manatee County executive director Amy Van Dell.
The ninth annual walk-a-thon will be held 8 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, March 7, at the Bradenton RiverWalk, 452 Third Ave. W., Bradenton.
Donations provide shelter, food, spay/neuter services and medical care for animals at the HSMC, 2515 14th St. W., Bradenton.
Van Dell recommends creating a profile and registering for the leisurely walk online at www.firstgiving.com/humanesocietymanatee.
There will be contests and prizes for children, teams and individuals.
The individual contest creates a friendly competition and a canine winner — “a ‘spokespet’ of the year,” she said.
Diesel, a Belgian Malinois owned by Melinda Cooper of Bradenton, won the distinction for 2015 because of Cooper’s 2014 fundraising, and he graces the HSMC calendar, website and marketing materials.
A $25 registration fee covers event costs. Proceeds go to the HSMC.
Proceeds from last year’s event were $61,000. Van Dell is aiming for $75,000 in 2015.
Registrants receive a Paws-in-Motion T-shirt and Goody Wag Bag.
