A Cortez man who once set a fire at a Bradenton post office was arrested April 3 in connection with a burglary at a storage facility.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Rafiaele Mazzucco, 55, on a warrant for a Feb. 15 break-in and theft of five backup fire-alarm batteries at San Remos Condos, 10004 Cortez Road.
In 2011, Mazzucco pleaded no-contest to an attempted arson and was sentenced to five years probation for setting an envelope on fire before placing it in a mail slot at the U.S. Postal Service at 115 75th St. W.
Mazzucco also has had several recent run-ins with the law.
He was arrested Feb. 9 on burglary and criminal mischief charges for allegedly breaking into vehicles and causing $2,000 in damage at a Bradenton used-car lot the day before, according to a Bradenton Police Department report.
BPD also arrested Mazzucco March 23 for alleging possessing a glass pipe and one Soma pill without a prescription.
As a result of the recent arrests, Mazzucco is charged with violating his 2011 probation.
He was being held in the Manatee County jail.
His next court dates are an April 23 misdemeanor arraignment, a May 8 felony arraignment and a May 11 violation of probation hearing.
The proceedings will be held at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
