After rear-ending a vehicle at Gulf and Marina drives in Holmes Beach, a Sarasota man was arrested for driving under the influence.
Holmes Beach Police Department and Manatee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at about 7:30 p.m. April 8 and cited Scott M. Watson, 48, for DUI, careless driving and no proof of insurance.
The 12th Judicial Circuit Court prosecutor filed formal charges April 17 against Strickland, specifying a DUI charge of .15 or higher, causing property damage.
According to British Columbia victim’s affidavits, they were stopped at a red light when Watson’s car hit their rental car from behind.
The victims and the MCSO deputy reported that Watson appeared impaired.
According to the MCSO report, Watson refused to take DUI field sobriety tests, but provided two breath samples, measuring .157 and .161. The legal limit is .08.
He was booked at the Manatee County jail and released on a $500 bond.
Watson’s court arraignment is set for 8:25 a.m. Monday, May 11, at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
