It appears residents’ voices have been heard in Holmes Beach.
Holmes Beach commissioners held a second reading May 12 of a moratorium that denies permits requesting more than one pool be built on one lot, and feedback from residents has commissioners second-guessing their rulemaking.
Commissioner Jean Peelen said she was concerned by the number of residents telling the commission a one pool per lot rule would negatively impact them.
“I just want to be really cognizant that we don’t, by dealing with big issues, negatively affect our longtime residents,” said Peelen.
Previous discussions on the one-pool moratorium brought residents, in addition to builders, to public comment.
Commissioner Marvin Grossman echoed Peelen’s concern.
“The commission I don’t think has made up their mind. This is just to try and get the politics out of the building department,” said Commission Chair Judy Titsworth.
Commissioner Carol Soustek moved to approve the final reading of the moratorium, and Peelen seconded.
