Islander to run 100 miles for charity

Island resident and associate director of athletics for IMG Academy, Scott Dean is running the May 16 Keys100 Ultra Marathon to benefit the academy’s student athletic foundation.

Dean, who has lived in Bradenton Beach with wife Kim for the three years, moved to the area from Connecticut about five years ago for a job coaching soccer at IMG. He was since named soccer program director and has helped IMG student athletes to NCAA championships, Division I scholarships and professional soccer careers.

He decided to raise money for the nonprofit IMG Student-Athlete Foundation to help provide scholarships for athletes who normally wouldn’t be able to attend IMG Academy.

Dean embarked on a 26-week training schedule in preparation for the ultra marathon. He runs five days a week, starting with a total of 40 miles a week, including one long run, while working up to 75 miles. In week 26, Dean’s training culminates with the 100 mile run.
