Holmes Beach man arrested for DUI

A Holmes Beach man was arrested for driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage after a Holmes Beach police officer observed him driving on a flat tire.

Robert McClellan, 57, was arrested by a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy after a crash in the 3200 block of East Bay Drive. HBPD also issued McClellan a ticket for careless driving.

No injuries were reported.

Leading to McClellan’s arrest, witnesses followed a white Infiniti to the Publix Super Market, 3900 E. Bay Drive, where police observed McClellan driving the vehicle out of the parking lot with a flat tire, according to an affidavit by HBPD Officer Joel Pierce.

MCSO arrested McClellan after observing he had watery eyes, slurred speech and that he was unsteady when he stood up.

An open container of Captain Morgan was sticking out from under the driver’s seat.

He was taken to Blake Medical Center where his blood alcohol measured .170, according to the MCSO report. The legal limit is .08.

McClellan was booked at the Manatee County jail and posted a $620 bond.

His court arraignment is set for July 20 at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
