Indoor adult soccer games wind down
And then there were two teams left.
The Anna Maria Island Community Center indoor soccer league completed semifinal playoff games July 9, leaving two winners to battle July 16 for the Island Cup.
Second-seeded Sato Real Estate rolled past LaPensee Plumbing by an 8-2 score in the first semifinal match behind four goals and an assist from Teddy Louloudes and two goals from Chris Klotz. Ali Thomas added a goal and two assists for Sato Real Estate, which also received a goal from Chase Parker and seven saves from Jason Sato in the victory.
Yuri Pereira scored two goals in the loss for LaPensee.
Eighth-seeded Slim’s Place continued its Cinderella-like run through the playoffs with a 3-1 victory over Eason Builders in the second semifinal match of the evening. Eric Pullen led Slim’s Place with two goals, while Sean Sanders scored once. Will Case anchored the victory with 12 saves.
The Island Cup is set for 8 p.m. Thursday, July 16, at the center, 407 Magnolia Ave., Anna Maria.
Youth indoor soccer gets underway
The summer indoor soccer league for youngsters in four age divisions at the Anna Maria Island Community Center got started July 6. Games are played 6-8 p.m. Monday- Friday. The division for players 5-7 years of age is instructional — minus standings — with the emphasis on having fun and learning the basics.
The 8-10 division’s first game took place July 8 with Signarama taking on Beach Bums. Signarama grabbed a 4-3 victory behind two goals from Noah Wampole and single goals from Julian Lazzara and Frankie Coleman.
Devon McGonigal led Beach Bums in the loss with three goals.
Signarama was back in action July 10 against West Coast Air Conditioning. WCAC came out on top by a 3-1 score behind three goals from Jeremiah Sculco, while Noah Wampole notched the lone goal for Signarama.
The 11-13 division got going July 6 when Bark Real Estate outscored Sugar Beach Digital by a 9-6 score behind six goals from Gavin Walker. Ryan Joseph, Javier Rivera and Preston Walker completed the scoring, each with one goal.
Sugar Beach Digital was led by two goals each from Sam Bowers and Tyler Brewer, while Yukio Kuroiwa and James Richards added one goal each in the loss.
Sugar Beach was back in action July 10 to roll past the Feast Restaurant by a 9-4 score behind four goals from Tyler Brewer. James Richards and Sam Bowers added two goals each, while Blake Balais added one goal in the victory.
Alex Rodriguez led the Feast with three goals, while Chris Leboff added one goal in the loss.
The 14-17 division got started July 6 with the all-girl Salty Printing team, including several Manatee High soccer players, rolled past LaPensee Plumbing 11-4 behind four goals from Florida Atlantic University-comit Meredith Roberts and three goals from Brianna Blethen. Sydney Morrow and Gillian Cassidy added two goals each to complete the scoring.
Ryan Fellowes scored three goals and Shydarian Searles added one goal to lead LaPensee in the loss.
Salty Printing was back in action July 8 to take on Wash Family Construction in what turned out to be an exciting, back-and-forth scoring affair.
Wash edged the girls 7-6 behind four goals from Gavin Walker and a goal each from Tim Holly, Burke Hill and Carter Reemelin.
Brianna Blethen and Sydney Cornell scored two goals each to lead Salty Printing, which also received a goal each from Sydney Morrow and Meredith Roberts in the loss.
Salty Printing exacted some revenge on Wash Family Construction during a July 10 rematch, earning a 9-6 victory behind three goals each from Blethen and Cornell. Sydney Morrow added two goals, while sister Shelby Morrow completed the victory with one goal.
Gavin Walker scored twice to lead Wash, which also received a goal each from Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Fellowes and Tim Holly in the loss.
Tournament plans emerge
The center will host a 3-on-3 basketball tournament 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, July 25-26, in the center gym.
Age divisions are 8-10, 11-13, 14-17 and 18 and older. Teams, consisting of four players maximum will pay $100 to play and each player will receive a T-shirt. Trophies will be awarded to division winners.
Next up on the center calendar is a softball tournament for players 18 years and older with play 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Aug. 1-2 at Birdie Tebbetts Field, 5801 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach.
Team registration is $250 with all participants receiving a T-shirt. The champions will receive trophies.
The center also will host a 4-on-4 beach volleyball tournament 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Aug. 8-9.
The tourney for two age groups, 11-17 and 18 years and older, will take place at Manatee Public Beach, 4000 Gulf Drive, Holmes Beach.
Registration for up to five players is $100 per team. Participant will receive a tournament T-shirt and trophies will be awarded to the winners.

Key Royale golf news
The women golfers at the Key Royale Club played a nine-hole, individual-low-net match with an added game of the day for total putts July 7.
Liz Lang and Loir Waggoner each carded 5-under-par 27s to tie for first place in Flight A, while Debbie Milder was a stroke back in second place.
Sally Martin’s 4-under-par 28 gave her first place in Flight B, while Marilyn Manzer was alone in second with a 2-under-par 30.
Lang’s 11 putts were the lowest in Flight A, while Terry Westby’s 14 putts took the low-putt prize in Flight B.
Horseshoe news
Two teams emerged from pool play during July 8 horseshoe action at the Anna Maria City Hall horseshoe pits and were left to battle for the day’s championship. Walker Hank Huyghe sauntered past the team of Dom Livedoti and Bob Heiger by a 21-1 score to earn bragging rights for the day.
The team of Jay Disbrow and Tim Sofran were the only team to earn a 3-0 record during pool play and were the day’s outright champs.
Play gets underway at 9 a.m. every Wednesday and Saturday at the Anna Maria City Hall pits. Warmups begin at 8:45 a.m. followed by random team selection. There is no charge to play and everyone is welcome.
