A witness who reported a motorist swerving into oncoming traffic on Marina Drive in Holmes Beach six times between 66th and 62nd streets led to the arrest of a Bradenton man for driving under the influence.
Sean Michael Phillips, 26, was arrested at 1:44 a.m. Sept. 5 at 5346 Gulf Drive after the Holmes Beach Police Department and Officer Jerard Vonador of the Bradenton Police Department caught up with the swerving motorist.
Stopping Phillips’ vehicle, Vonador reported a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver. Phillips agreed to take field sobriety tests but refused the Breathalyzer, according to the Bradenton police officer’s report.
He told police he’d drank two-three beers while fishing and wanted to go home.
Based on his field-test results, Phillips was arrested for DUI and transported to Manatee County jail, according to the police reports.
While in transport, he used racial slurs and told the officer he had a gun and he’d use it on him, according to Vonador’s report.
After Phillips’ first court appearance, he was released on posting a $500 bond.
His court arraignment is set for Oct. 7 at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
