A 2005 GMC Envoy was stolen and returned in short order to Anna Maria Commissioner Chuck Webb.
According to police reports, the black SUV was taken from Webb’s residence in the 500 block of Magnolia Avenue Sept. 24-25 between 11:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m.
The Holmes Beach Police Department first encountered a suspect in the stolen vehicle at 2:47 a.m.
An officer saw the vehicle turn left from Gulf Drive onto Manatee Avenue and swerve across the street, according to HBPD Sgt. Mike Pilato.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle as it turned onto Sixth Avenue in the 3800 block and into a parking lot behind Publix Super Market.
The driver then jumped from the vehicle and fled across the street.
Police canvassed the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
The vehicle was recovered from the parking lot undamaged by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, according to MCSO public information director Dave Bristow.
