The Anna Maria Island Community Center recently debuted a new name, new logo, a new organizational structure, five new employees and a new board member.
It also officially opened a new, expanded fitness center Oct. 5.
Executive director Kristen Lessig announced new employees Will Schenerlein, Drew Mitchell, Judy Wiggins, Caron Schellenger and Susan Udermann at the Sept. 28 center board meeting.
Schenerlein, as recreation director, will oversee kindergarten-fifth-grade and teen after-school programs. He also will oversee youth and adult sports, previously responsibilities shared by co-directors Ray Gardner and Matt Ray, both fired Sept. 22.
Mitchell is youth program manager. His responsibilities also include management and facilitation of youth sports and after-school programs.
As a licensed clinical worker, Wiggins is the center’s family support director, providing workshops and support for families and children. She also will provide support for center staff.
Schellenger joins the center staff as teen coordinator. She is responsible for developing and implementing a teen program and providing service opportunities for teens at the center.
Udermann is stepping to the front desk to manage staff schedules, create and manage procedures for front desk workers and greet members and guests.
Employment openings at the center include an events coordinator position and evening and weekend front desk help.
Island property owner Patty McBean joined the center board by unanimous vote during the Sept. 28 meeting.
Board member Mike Coleman said invitations have been extended to mayors of the three island cities to join the center board as voting members.
“Anyone willing to roll up their sleeves and help is welcome on the board,” Coleman said.
The center is at 407 Magnolia Ave., Anna Maria.
