Two men visiting Anna Maria Island from Kentucky attempted to resuscitate a 63-year-man found floating face down at the water’s edge near the 55th Street beach access in Holmes Beach.
At 5:09 p.m. Oct. 4, a medic declared the man dead, according to the Holmes Beach police incident report.
Police identified the deceased as Andreas Salvesen, who was on vacation with his brothers from Norway.
The victim’s brothers told police they saw Salvesen earlier in the day with two women on the beach. One brother said he saw Salvesen standing waist deep in water less than 30 minutes before finding him on the shore.
When police arrived, the victim’s brothers were performing CPR.
According to the police report, Salvesen had a history of heart ailments and spinal arthritis. He also had been drinking alcohol.
HBPD Chief Bill Tokajer said Oct. 9, the medical examiner’s office was conducting an investigation and the death may have been “medically induced.”
