Cortez man ordered to probation for DUI, damaging squad car

A Cortez man was ordered to pay restitution to Manatee County and sentenced to 12 months probation for driving impaired and kicking out a patrol car window.

Steven C. Scott, 33, pleaded guilty in 12th Judicial Circuit Court Dec. 22, 2015, to criminal damage to property and resisting arrest. He pleaded no contest to driving under the influence.

On Feb. 19, Judge Doug Henderson ordered Scott to pay $650.12 for damage to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office squad car.

Scott had been pulled over by a Holmes Beach police officer in November 2015 in the 3800 block of Gulf Drive for failure to maintain his lane.

An MCSO deputy also responded and took the man into custody. On the way to jail, Scott became belligerent in the backseat of the deputy’s squad car, shattering the window.

Henderson found Scott guilty on all counts and ordered him to complete DUI school, attend a victim impact panel and pay $1,056 in court costs.
