Spring break ticketing in Holmes Beach declined this year — with 42 percent fewer parking violations.
For March 5-April 10, the Holmes Beach Police Department reported 402 parking tickets, down from 764 tickets March 1-April 4 in 2015.
There were 322 tickets written during the spring break period in 2014.
Detective Sgt. Brian Hall said the “weather kept people away,” especially March 21-25 during Manatee and Polk counties’ spring break.
Chief Bill Tokajer agreed, saying inclement weather reduced ticketing.
He also said returning visitors ticketed last year “learned from their mistakes.”
