Island police blotter – 06-15-2016

Anna Maria

        May 21, 200 block of Gladiolus Street, theft. Two kayaks, with a total value of $400, were stolen from a backyard. The kayaks were later recovered and returned to the owner. A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office investigation is ongoing.

Bradenton Beach

June 8, Cortez Beach, 800 Gulf Drive, theft. A woman’s purse, containing a cellphone valued at $500, was stolen from the beach. A witness told a Bradenton Beach police officer he observed a male place his belongings near the purse, enter the water, come out of the Gulf, take the purse and leave.

June 8, 2200 block of Avenue A, criminal mischief. Four tires on a truck were reported slashed.

Holmes Beach

May 28, 3200 block of Gulf Drive, battery. A woman told police she was hit in the face by a woman sitting on the beach at the edge of her rental property. Witnesses said the victim confronted the woman. A warrant arrest for the alleged striker was requested by the Holmes Beach Police Department.

May 29, 2900 block of Avenue F, theft. A large inflatable raft with a “kiss” on it was reported stolen from a parking area the day before.

May 31, CVS, 611 Manatee Ave., theft/trespass. A woman ate candy and hid a beverage under her shirt before exiting the store without paying. Police located the alleged shoplifter in a nearby business and found no stolen items in her possession. She was issued a trespass warning by the store supervisor and told not to return for a year. HBPD requested the state attorney issue a warrant for her arrest.

May 31, 3600 block of East Bay Drive, drug/warrant. A man and his girlfriend were reported loitering in front of a business. Police determined the man had an outstanding warrant and took him into custody. After searching a bag in their possession, the woman was arrested for drug paraphernalia. They were transported to the Manatee County jail.

June 1, 500 block of 67th Street, theft/extortion. A man reported he’d hired a massage therapist May 26 from a website and a woman arrived 45 minutes later. The man paid the woman $100 and she asked for gas money. She allegedly took $600 from a bedside table. When the man protested, the woman texted someone and a man identified as the woman’s husband showed up and threatened the customer with a knife. A few days later, the woman texted the customer, threatening to allege he sexually assaulted her if he didn’t pay her more money. The customer complied, saying he followed requests to place $200 in his mailbox several times and also sent the woman $470 via Western Union. An investigation is ongoing.

June 2, 100 block of 77th Street, criminal mischief. A gazebo owner reported someone painted his white gazebo teal. He estimated $300 in damages.
