Colin causes rainouts for some AMI outdoor sports
According to the National Weather Service, Tropical Storm Colin dumped more than 14 inches of rain in our area June 7-8.
It canceled organized golf activity at Key Royale Club and forced the 8-10 division championship soccer game at the Center of Anna Maria Island to be rescheduled to June 1,3 after press time for The Islander.
Other outdoor activities resumed mid-week, including adult soccer and basketball at the Center.
Adult soccer rolls on
The sixth week of adult soccer action at the center saw Jiffy Lube earn a victory without taking the field as, unfortunately, Blake Medical Center No. 2 failed to field a team, which resulted in a 1-0 victory for Jiffy Lube.
The win moved Jiffy to 5-1 on the season, one game up on 4-2 Slim’s Place. Ross Built, Wash Family Construction and Eason Builders follow with matching 3-2 records, while Island Pest Control and Moss Builders are tied in seventh place with 2-3 records. Blake No. 2 is alone in eighth place at 1-4-1, while Blake Medical Center No. 1 hold up the rear at 0-4-1.
Slim’s Place improved to 4-2 with a 3-2 victory over Moss Builders to open the action on the center’s field June 9. Slim’s was led by a goal and an assist from Darrin Wash and a goal and four saves from Will Case in goal. James Lynch completed the scoring for Slim’s with one goal, while Sean Sanders added an assist in the victory.
Aaron Parkin and Ed Moss scored a goal each and Don Purvis made four saves to lead Moss Builders in the loss.
Wash Family Construction rolled to a 12-4 victory over Island Pest Control behind goals from six different players, including a game-high four goals from Jennifer Sayko. Sean Flynn, Rico Beissert and Murat Akay added two goals each, while Andre Lewis and Lyn Clark completed the scoring with a goal each.
Kevin Roman led the Pests with a pair of goals, while Lexi Braxton added a goal and an assist. Frank Agnelli completed the scoring with one goal in the loss.
The last game of the evening was a builder battle. Eason Builders Group defeat Ross Built 3-1 behind a hat trick from Anthony Barberio. Shea Yates added an assist in the victory and Scott Rudacille recorded three saves.
Chris Circharo scored the lone goal for Ross Built in the loss, while Richard Fosmore made four saves.
Adult basketball continues
Team Jackson continues to lead the pack in the adult basketball league at the Center at the conclusion of the June 7 action. Team Jackson is 5-0 with Team Calvary its closest challenger, two wins back with a 3-1 record. Team Sapanora, Team Terman and Team Bekkerus follow with 2-2 records. Team Aaron is alone in sixth place at 1-3, while Team Bailey is still in search for its first victory.
The first game of the evening June 7 saw Team Calvary roll to an easy 82-51 victory over Team Bailey behind a game-high 35 points from James Friedman and 24 points from LaTravis Washington. Andrew Staggs paced Team Bailey with 23 points, while Matt Connell and Daniel Bailey added 12 points each in the loss.
Team Bekkerus earned a 64-50 victory over Team Terman in the second game of the night behind 25 points from Neil Baumann and 12 points from Jens Buff. Scott Eason’s 14 points and 12 points from Ray Gardner led Team Terman in the loss.
Team Jackson received double-figure scoring from four players, led by Antwan Jackson’s 27 points during their 76-68 victory over Team Sapanora. Matthew Dwyer and Teagan Purtil added 13 points each, while John Davis finished with 11 points in the victory. Scott Elisio’s 22 points and 15 points from Joe Bazo paced Team Sapanora in the loss.
