Sex offender arrested for failing to register

Police arrested a 56-year-old sex offender for failing to notify law enforcement after moving to Holmes Beach.

Holmes Beach Police Department arrested Brian Edward Owens July 27 after a tip about an unregistered sex offender residing at a residence on the 2700 block of Avenue C since February.

Owens was convicted of a sex offense in Indiana in March of 1986.

In a probable cause affidavit, HBPD Detective Sgt. Brian Hall alleged Owens failed to register his change of residence with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office within 48 hours and failed to notify the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles of his new address.

Owens was transported to Manatee County jail, booked and released the next day, after posting a $5,000 bond.

Owens is one of four sex offenders on Anna Maria Island and Cortez.
