A Saturn wagon traveling 39 mph in a 25-mph zone on Gulf Drive prompted Holmes Beach police to stop the motorist.
Joel Lewetag, 27, of Palmetto, was arrested for driving under the influence after Holmes Beach Police Officer Alan Bores observed the speeding vehicle at 1:13 a.m. Aug. 12, while conducting radar in the 5200 block of Gulf Drive.
Bores pulled Lewetag over in a parking lot at 5500 Marina Drive and conducted field sobriety tests.
Lewetag allegedly told Bores he was coming from Bridge Street in Bradenton Beach, where he’d had “a few beers.”
Upon a vehicle search, police reported finding a half-full cold beer, a cooler containing beer and Lewetag’s Lexapro prescription.
He was ticketed with speeding and possessing an open container.
According to the report, Lewetag was transported to the Manatee County jail, where he provided two breath samples measuring 0.122. The legal limit is 0.08.
Lewetag posted a $500 bond and was released.
The state attorney filed a charge of driving under the influence.
His DUI arraignment is at 8:25 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at the Manatee County Judicial Center, 1051 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
